VITAMIN N

  • VITAMIN N

The benefits of nature – walking, caring for plants, and looking at landscapes can promote good health.  The Director of the Center for Health Systems and Design at Texas A&M University, Roger Ulrich, found that patients required less pain medication and recovered more quickly when their rooms overlooked trees.

Richard Louv, author of Last Child In The Woods, coined the term “nature-deficit disorder” to describe the consequences of the increasing divide between children and nature. He encourages doses of “vitamin N.”

Recently I needed “vitamin N” and took a walk. Along the trail I saw Corbilina’s heart-shaped leaves filled with water from a recent rain shower. Nature nourished these young plants and provided water for the little fairies whenever they needed a drink. A little imagination plus the beauty of nature gave me energy to last all day!
