Children appreciate recognition for their efforts.  Not long ago I was telling a Corbilina story with a preschool group and the children were told to raise their hands if they had a comment.  One little boy raised his hand but when called upon he looked at the floor and could not speak.  His neighbor quickly commented, “He is thinking.”  What an affirming comment!

This child understood there are diverse ways of contributing to the group. In a recent Forbes article about adult leadership, the author, Glenn Llopis, (http://tinyurl.com/kophoft) noted that employees want leaders “to appreciate and enable their unique ways of thinking.”  A compassionate perspective encourages diverse contributions and respects the ideas of everyone – children and adults!
