Learning A New Language
Last month I read a wonderful story about a grandmother and her granddaughter to elementary students in Walnut Creek, CA. The book, Mango, Abuela, and Me by Meg Medina tells how Mia, a young girl, teaches her grandmother English while the grandmother teaches her Spanish. Their pet parrot, Mango, helps both of them to communicate. The story reminded me that compassion and understanding for one another can create a loving bond between the young and the not so young!
