Power Of Kindness

  • Power Of Kindness

One person described kindness as the defining difference between love of power and the Power of Love. Putting kindness in the same sentence as power may seem a bit confusing because an act of kindness does not seem to fit our usual definition of power or does it?

    • Power builds strength.
    • Power instills confidence.

It takes a strong sense of compassion for a bystander to stop a bully from taunting another person.  It takes strong determination to step forward and speak against the hurtful words of one friend to another friend. Acting with kindness is a pattern of behavior which builds strength of character.

When a child makes a bad choice and an adult appreciates the learning that took place rather than criticizing the action which led to the mistake, a child feels more confident to make future decisions.  When a child helps another person accomplish a task, no matter how small, the child feels better about himself or herself. Kindness instills confidence.

Children and adults can build strength and confidence with acts of kindness.  November  13th, has been designated World Kindness Day.  It was the opening day of the first World Kindness Movement conference in 1998 held in Tokyo. The Cosmos flower is official flower of the World Kindness Movement. What powerful act of kindness can you do to celebrate this event and continue to celebrate throughout the year?
